Mulberry Green dates back to early medieval times, when it was one of three main groups of houses in the area, becoming firmly established in the 1300s. During the 17th century, Mulberry Green was an important stopping place for travellers making the journey between London and East Anglia. The Green Man Inn, still popular in the village today, was a coaching house, providing lodgings and rest for travellers and their horses. Throughout the 18th century, the area grew gradually wealthier, which towards the latter part of the century led to 'fashionable' brick- fronted houses being built, with Mulberry Green House being one of the most prominent. The sympathetic restoration of the Grade II* listed 18th Century House and the traditional styling and architectural detailing of the new properties in Mulberry Gardens will reflect the charm and character of the area, ensuring that Mulberry Green retains its prominent position in the heart of the village. |
